Production notes
A BBC Studios production, Islelanders was written and directed by Alessio Avezzano and produced by Mark Bignell, marks Avezzano's television directorial debut.
Starring Matthew McGill, Jamie MacColl, Rachel Flynn and John McQuiston. The sitcom was inspired by a series of sketches created during a 2020 lockdown when Avezzano and his brother, Matthew McGill, returned to their home island after years in Shanghai. These humorous takes on island life and lockdown caught BBC Studios' attention, leading to the commission of a sitcom set on a fictional island in 2021. Praised by The Herald as "very sweet, packed with promise, and deserving of a wider audience," Islelanders represents a significant leap from YouTube content to major platform comedy.
